Backing up your patient records is critical when using any Patient Management System and iCOSMETIC is no exception.
Backing up with iCOSMETIC Premium
iCOSMETIC Premium includes easy ‘one-touch’ backup to the iCOSMETIC Cloud but what if you’re an iCOSMETIC Solo user? What’s the best way of backing up your data so that should you lose or damage your iPad or experience any technical issues you know your patient records are safely backed up?
Backing up via iTunes
In one of our previous blogs we showed you how to backup iCOSMETIC Solo to your Mac or PC using iTunes. But what if you don’t have access to a computer or want a simpler process that you can complete using just your iPad?
Exporting to Dropbox
With FileMaker Go’s new Export feature backing up iCOSMETIC Solo has never been easier and can now be done using just the FileMaker Go and Dropbox apps directly from your iPad.
What do I need to do?
- Setup a free Dropbox account at www.dropbox.com
- Download the Dropbox app from the App Store
- Use FileMaker Go’s Export feature to regularly back up iCOSMETIC Solo to Dropbox.
Can’t I just work from the Dropbox copy of iCOSMETIC Solo?
Unfortunately you cannot work directly from the iCOSMETIC Solo file saved in Dropbox as whenever FileMaker Go opens any file it imports it into the FileMaker Go app.
Creating Multiple Backups
When you create your Dropbox backup you can choose to overwrite the previous iCOSMETIC.fmp12 file or change the name and save multiple backups. A good file naming convention is to add the date before iCOSMETIC.fmp12. e.g. 150220_iCOSMETIC.fmp12.
